SOLD! 0908.. IVORY BILLIKEN CHARM

Suitable as a charm for your bracelet or can be worn as a pendant.   About 1 inch long, not including the jump ring above the head.  This is vintage ivory, scrimshawed in black and set with a natural gold nugget flake for a belly button.  Although originated elsewhere, the Billiken was adoped in Alaska as a figurine almost a hundred years ago.  This one is a more recent carving, in excellent condition.

SOLD! 1108.. UNIQUE VICTORIAN HAND CHARM

A very special, antique,  late Victorian charm.   The black hand is carved Onyx.  The end cap at the wrist is custom made with  applied scroll work.  The gold bracelet  slides easily on the wrist.  The fingers, with tiny gold fingernails, clutches a gold key.   The use of black material indicates that the charm was probably a Mourning charm; the key is emotion laden, perhaps the key to a heart now gone or a promise to keep ones love locked tightly for the departed..  About 1 1/4 inches.   The gold is thought to be 6K.   May have been used as a watch fob or charm.  Suitable for a pendant, just add a chain, or add to a charm bracelet.
