QUETZALCOATL ~ A DRAGON-LIKE MOTIF FROM THE AZTECS

Beautifully worked sterling BRACELET, the design is a double layer, with the top layer heavily worked in the repousse' fashion.  Quetzalcoatl is translated as  the feather serpent god.  You can clearly see the feathers atop the head, the long serpents tongue tipped at the end with a fork, the scaled body  and the claw feet.  Worship of the feathered serpent deity is first documented around 400 BC. In some areas of Mexico he was also known as Kukulcan and Gukumatz.  The Aztecs related this god to the gods of wind, of Venus, the dawn, and others.  The bracelet is a bypass style, average size, measurement from feathered head to feathered head is 4 inches.  Width across at the hinge is 1 inch.  Marked 925 (sterling), Initials appear to be ES, surrounded by Hecho en Mexico.  Estimated retail replacement $800.

EXQUISITE CUPID BROOCH, 14K

The perfectly turned body of this little cupid is totally dimensional.  He reclines on a textured log (hollow on the reverse) and entertains the bird alight on his toe.   Cupid's eyes are tiny blue sapphires.   Marked 14K.  This exquisite piece is thought to be a series, because I have seen two others and owned one.  Each was different, maker unknown.   1 7/8 inches long.   Vintage estate jewelry in excellent condition.  Replacement value $2200.

OUT OF THIS WORLD STERLING BROOCH

Do you wonder what stimulated the imagination of the maker of this brooch?  Obviously another planet, the raised band of rhinestones may be the equator and the encircling triple band would be Saturn like rings.  The planet is studded with multi-color rhinestones set in star shape cavities.  Original rose gold tone plated over sterling, the front has some remnants of the plating; the back is still plated.  This was a stunner in its day, which is presumed to be 1950-60s.  Hallmarked "HARRIS"  and marked Sterling.   Vintage costume jewelry,  about 2 inches.
Price:$118.00    Condition: As described    Order Item#R/V100828  JL

ETHNIC ~ FINE FILIGREE WIRE WORK AND VERY FINE CLOISSONNE ENAMELING

Terrific Ethnic BRACELET.  Each curved link is very finely hand wound silver filigree in an ornate pattern.  The figures are extremely well done.  Each little cell to contain a color was made of silver wire, and filled with the glass powders before firing.  A gold wash was applied after the 1 1/2 inch wide bracelet was finished.  Fits an average to 7 3/4 inch wrist.  Vintage estate jewelry tests silver,  thought to be circa 1930s, the figures look Spanish or Greek?

SPLENDID FIGURAL BROOCH

Unusual sterling (tested & guaranteed) BROOCH is perhaps a Royal Scottish service of the 1940s, or perhaps another part of the Empire.  The head covering may be a turban, style is undeterminate.  His jacket is red paint enamel set with color baguette rhinestones.  The shield is set with rhinestones.  He wears a skirt, perhaps it is a kilt, with a hinged fringe of faux, simulated pearl drops at the waist.  His knee guards, face, and hilt of the spear are also faux, simulated pearls. Use of a closing C clasp, and the baguettes indicate that age to be late 30s or 1940s.  Vintage costume jewelry, in excellent condition,  2 5/8 inches.

DIMENSIONAL ENAMEL OWL BROOCH

A beauty, enameled in emerald green and dark sapphire blue on gold tone.  The brooch is  about 3 inches and dimensional to a half-round shape.  The left eye is a little out of focus in the picture because of the dimension but be assured that it is bright and perfect just like the right eye.   Vintage costume jewelry, unknown maker, in like new excellent condition, circa 1970.

MINIATURE MUDHEAD KACHINA EARRINGS

The Mudhead with his goggle eyes is the clown of Indian ceremonies, both in the Zuni tribe and the Hopi tribe.  These are hand carved of wood, perhaps balsa, as they are very light.  The skirt is a fabric simulating suede and the fluffy neck piece is probably a bit of pipe cleaner.  Care has been taken in painting these, even the bottoms of the feet.  Suspended on french hooks, the total length is 1 3/4 inches.   Estate jewelry in excellent condition.

AUSTRALIAN PENNY COIN NECKLACE

Australia, the home of one of my favorite costume jewelry aficionados.  The darkness in areas of the coin is from reflection.  In fact, the coin is shiny and gold color, which leads Sparkles to believe that it is a reproduction rather than an original coin.    Dated 1945, the approx. 30 mm coin is suspended from a gold tone neck wire.  Vintage costume jewelry in excellent condition.

NOT FOR EVERYBODY ~ A REALLY FUNKY, CHUNKY NECKLACE THEMED DAY OF THE DEAD

Fantastic, polymer clay necklace, many of the beads are two sided "skull" squares.  The finished NECKLACE is composed of many interesting styles and colors of clay beads along with small to medium colorful glass beads. Double strand, with some dangling beads, about 23 inches long and closed with a sterling toggle style clasp.    From the estate of an art aficionado, who spent lavishly and  also choose her jewelry for effect.  Among her collections were   those funky, colorful wood animals from Mexico.  and also  material related to The Day of the Dead.   Día de los Muertos, November 2,  is a holiday celebrated in Mexico, and by latinos in other countries.  Families and friends gather, honor and pray for and remember the dead, eat and party. It occurs the day after All Saints' Day and is the same day as All Souls Day.  Alters are built, and there are traditional candies and ceremonies.
