STUNNING ANTIQUE MICROMOSAIC BROOCH CIRCA 1851

Please! This is not the "micro" mosaic commonly seen in numbers across the internet.      What is usually identified as micro mosaic is a charming  mosaic art, used for tourist jewelry.  You will know the difference because the tesserae (tiles) are large & easily individually visible, and sometimes the tiles are several colors of glass rod fused together to create a flower or petal out of a single tile, and the motifs are simple florals.    This BROOCH  is true micromosaic.   Click on the thumbnail at left and you will see how tiny these tiles are in the picture with the dime and then how exquisitely they are assembled in the enlargement.  The tesserae are in excellent condition with none missing. Jewelry this old, 1851, seldom escapes unscathed and so  you will note some small chips (seen as gray) along the edges of the black plaque, and the upper left corner has been professionally repaired (not visible).  The frame tests 14K; the  back appears to be copper and may/ may not be original.  This is the   note  that accompanied the BROOCH.    Measurements are 2 1/4 inches x 1 7/8 inches, almost 3/8 inches thick.

EXQUISITE LITTLE ENAMELED PENDANT

This type of jewelry, seen in pins and pendants, are very desirable for those in the know.  The enameling is generally excellent and the motifs almost always floral or Art Deco.  Circa 1900-1930, very few of them have survived with some damage to the glass enameling.  This one missing a bit of the green enamel just at the top point of the right hand leaf and also on the right hand stem.   Visually the missing enamel doesn't detract from the effect of the pendant.   The flower appears to be a lily centered by a tiny real pearl and the pendant is set with tiny half pearls.  The pearls are likely to be natural, but could be cultured.  The pendant is marked 10K, the 24 inch chain is marked 14K.

Jewelry  indicating an "appraisal range" or "retail range" or "approximate retail value" are the opinions of the owner of this website.  If you obtain a written Replacement Appraisal from a reputable appraiser, it should be within the "Retail Range".

Retail and/or Replacement appraisals vary as much as -25% to +25% from one appraiser to another. . Factors affecting this include geographical location, high/low rent districts, & price range. I have chosen a medium price range for ease of comparison. The selling prices are, in almost every case, well below the appraisal range. If the selling price approaches the appraisal price, there may be unusual factors guiding the pricing. Please inquire if you wish further information on the pricing structure or a guarantee of an appraisal amount. If you obtain an independent written  Retail Replacement Appraisal from a reputable appraiser it should be within the "Retail Range".

*Jewelry marked "Master Gemologist" indicates that appraisal was done by a person who been trained to the highest standards, as determined by the American Society of Appraisers.  A Master Gemologist's training is superior to a Gemologist, Graduate Gemologist, or Certified Gemologist, and she is prepared to back up her appraisal with facts based on her research, and tests done with gemological equipment.  A written copy of appraisals already  done by  the Master Gemologist I use is available for a small additional fee and does not delay shipping of the jewelry.

A Master Gemologist appraisal  can be obtained on ANY piece of jewelry.  The delay in shipping the jewelry could be 5-10 days.
