LARIMAR & STERLING PENDANT

Mix of exceptional  blue color and white, the cabochon is set in Sterling and suspended from a 18 inch Sterling Italian chain.  Larimar is a variety of pectolite.  Although pectolite is found in many locations, none have the unique volcanic blue coloration of larimar, which is found only in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Sea.  Discovered by Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren he took his daughter's name Larissa and the Spanish word for sea (mar).  Excellent condition jewelry still boxed from Marks and Morgan Jewelers.

Antique estate jewelry, the delicate filigree appearance is the influence of the Edwardian age.  The 10 K pendant is  set with two natural (not cultured) pearls, a tiny baroque one near the top and a "tooth" shape dangle from the bottom.  The particular shapes were common to the Mississippi Pearls during the period when they were available, before polution destroyed the small pearling industry.   The pink stone is a sapphire.   The pendant is 1 1/2 inches long and is suspended from a 10K yellow gold 14 inch chain, excellent condition.

VICTORIAN  BIRD BROOCH, 14K YELLOW GOLD

Hand made brooch features three colors of karat gold, much of it textured "diamond cut".  The flowers, leaves, seashell & bird are individually made and mounted on an open framework.  Set with tiny turquoise cabachons and three perhaps natural or perhaps cultured baroque pearls.  The bird is usually silver and in this case appears to be silver with a partial gold wash.  Sparklz can't find the reference she used when she had a pair of earrings like this brooch, but the recollection is that this is traditional "Jewelry of the People" made in a remote Mexican village and has been made for generations in exactly the same way, so it is difficult to actually date.  The clasp is a curlique c-style, which would indicate that this  probably dates to the first third of the 1900s.  Further research may elicit more information.  Sparklz is looking through her library for the original information.  In the meantime apparently similar pieces can be seen in David & Pack "Mexican Jewelry".  The dangles hang correctly, they just look askew as the picture was made on a scanner.  In excellent condition, except for a missing floret near the bird's beak.  Antique estate jewelry, the BROOCH is about 2 3/4 inches.   Estimated replacement value $1500-$2500.
