Most ivories on these pages will be elephant or mammoth.   All of the elephant ivory is vintage and acquired through estates and individuals and was legally imported in years past.  Mammoth ivory may be vintage or contemporary and comes from the Wooly Mammoth that roamed the northern hemisphere between 2 million and 10,000 years ago.  Other ivories will be identified when their source is known.

SOLD! 0210.. IVORY BILLIKIN PENDANT OR CHARM

The Billikin is an Alaskan Native people charm symbolizing good luck, health & happiness.  Hand carved of Ivory (thought  to be Vintage Walrus), this one is a bit unusual.... his turned up feet (see the toes) reside just below his very protruding belly which is set with a gold nugget.  His face has "apple" checks .. that is, they are very round and also protrude more than usual.  His little ears arae pointed.  The bottom and the back of the pendant is flat, and the height is 1 1/4 inches.  Suitable for a pendant or charm.

LARGE IVORY PENDANT ~ a BEAUTY!

Beautifully craved vintage ivory pendant measures a full three inches.  It is suspended by a 14K gold bail from a long, 35 inch strand of 4 mm ivory beads.   The leaf at top right has lost it's original tip and has been reformed to look appropriate.  This would look great on a shorter bead or cord necklace, or would make a good conversion to a brooch...a very good buy at this price.  Vintage ivory estate jewelry in excellent condition.

Fetching elephant, a nice big chunk of carved ivory, 2 inches tall.   From the 70s, the metal blanket, toes & tusk show light wear to the gold tone plating, not obvious.   Red rhinestone eye and a curlicue tail, suspended from a 28 inch, gold tone chain   Schraeger lines seen front and back and the crosshatching everyone looks for in ivory is seen on the bottoms of his feet.   Vintage estate jewelry in very good condition.

Deeply carved with great detail, vintage ivory EARRINGS are about 3/4 inches.  Old ones, originally with screw backs, they have been recently converted to gold filled pierced post and nut.   While not noticeable from the front, there should be three teeth like structures seen at the bottom, from the reverse; one is complete and in the enlargement look for the little arrow and you will see that the left is chipped in this area.   Perfectly wearable estate jewelry, priced accordingly.
