Most ivories on these pages will be elephant or mammoth.   All of the elephant ivory is vintage and acquired through estates and individuals and was legally imported in years past.  Mammoth ivory may be vintage or contemporary and comes from the Wooly Mammoth that roamed the northern hemisphere between 2 million and 10,000 years ago.  Other ivories will be identified when their source is known.

VINTAGE IVORY ELELPANT PENDANT

Fetching elephant, a nice big chunk of carved ivory, 2 inches tall.   From the 70s, the metal blanket, toes & tusk show light wear to the gold tone plating, not obvious.   Red rhinestone eye and a curlicue tail, suspended from a 28 inch, gold tone chain   Schraeger lines seen front and back and the crosshatching everyone looks for in ivory is seen on the bottoms of his feet.   Vintage estate jewelry in very good condition.

HAND CARVED, VINTAGE IVORY ROSE EARRINGS

Deeply carved with great detail, vintage ivory EARRINGS are about 3/4 inches.  Old ones, originally with screw backs, they have been recently converted to gold filled pierced post and nut.   While not noticeable from the front, there should be three teeth like structures seen at the bottom, from the reverse; one is complete and in the enlargement look for the little arrow and you will see that the left is chipped in this area.   Perfectly wearable estate jewelry, priced accordingly.

IVORY BILLIKEN COUPLE CHARM EARRINGS

Too sweet, it is a "couple" ... him with his squinty eyed, happy smile, her batting her long, black eyelashes.  About 1 1/8 inch long,  including the earring surmount.  This is vintage ivory, scrimshawed in black and set with  natural gold nugget flake for a belly button.  Although originated elsewhere, the Billiken was adopted in Alaska as a figurine almost a hundred years ago.  Wear as earrings, or they are suitable as a charm for your bracelet (ask me to join them both to a single gold jump ring).

BILLIKEN ~ ALASKAN IVORY & GOLD NUGGET

Perfect size for a charm bracelet or to wear on a necklace.   About 1 inch long including the jump ring above the head, this is vintage ivory, scrimshawed in black and set with a natural gold nugget flake for a belly button.  Although originated elsewhere, the Billiken was adopted in Alaska as a figurine almost a hundred years ago.  This one is a more recent carving, in excellent condition.   As seen it is suspended from an 18 inch gold filled chain.   If you want it as a charm for a bracelet, please use the Comments section of the order form to note that and the chain will be exchanged for a 14K gold jump ring.
